U.S. Coast Guard Station - Port Aransas, Texas
The U.S. Congress authorized a Life Saving Station to be built in Ropesville, (which would later become Port Aransas), in 1878. The Lifesaving Service became the Coast Guard and has served and protected boaters and shipping here ever
since.
Over the years, many of the earlier buildings were destroyed by storms and fire. The current hurricane proof structure was built in 1978.
Currently deployed at the Port Aransas Coast Guard Station is the new coastal patrol boat STEELHEAD (WPB
87324).
